HOPE STREET CHOIR
HEALING HEARTS THROUGH THEPOWER OF MUSIC
The story of Hope Street Choir began seven years ago when founder Debi Bailey-Brown attended a conference in San Diego. In her hotel room, she picked up a local magazine — the first article she read was about the San Diego Homeless Choir, founded by musician Steph Johnson. The story moved her deeply: Steph, overwhelmed by the growing number of homeless individuals in her neighborhood, decided to start a choir.
What began as a small act of compassion grew into something extraordinary. The choir found a church willing to host rehearsals and serve meals, and soon they were performing to sold-out audiences — bringing tears, hope, and connection to everyone present. Inspired by that story, Debi carried a dream home to Redding: to create a street choir that would unite the community through the healing power of music.

ABOUT THE CHOIR
The Hope Street Choir brings together our unsheltered neighbors and community members to rediscover hope and purpose through music. Each Friday, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, we meet at the Shasta County Arts Council for connection, breakfast, and vocal practice. Together, we lift our voices, share stories, and prepare for performances that celebrate life and resilience.
Our choir performs throughout the community — from Black History Month and MLK celebrations to senior homes, schools, and holiday events like the Garden of Lights, where we'll perform for the fourth year in a row. For many, it's the highlight of the season — a chance to celebrate the holidays, feel joy, and experience belonging in a way they never have before.
Beyond music, the Hope Street Choir is a place of healing. We walk alongside members as they face the challenges of homelessness, addiction, and trauma — helping each person find confidence, friendship, and faith in their journey toward wholeness.
